Harnessing Innovative Technologies
Supporting Resilient Settlements on the Coastal Zones of the Caribbean
Welcome to the website of the project Harnessing Innovative Technologies to support Resilient Settlements on the Coastal Zones of the Caribbean. This project was sponsored by the ACP-EU Programme to strengthen Research and Innovation capacity in ACP countries. The project recognizes that the creation, development and diffusion of indigenous and other forms of knowledge, technologies and innovations are powerful drivers of inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development. This is particularly important in building resilience in coastal communities of the Caribbean where the majority of the population and infrastructure resides, and which is threatened by Sea Level Rise and the impacts of hydro-meteorological events exacerbated by Climate Change.
This project aims to provide support for projects which develop innovations to increase resilience in coastal communities of the Caribbean, as well as strengthen institutions, national and local governments’ ability to leverage information and knowledge for policy amendments. The University of the West Indies, Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, and Anton de Kom University of Suriname were awarded this grant for their project Harnessing Innovative Technologies to support Resilient Settlements on the Coastal Zones of the Caribbean under this Programme on 1st January 2021.
